On Chulu West Peak Climbing, you will not only climb a mountain but also follow the Annapurna Circuit Trail. During the trek, you get to see the rich culture of the locals, visit ancient monasteries, caves, and see the unique lifestyle of the people living in this region. The trial also crosses challenging Thorong La Pass and allows you to visit Muktinath Temple, a very famous pilgrimage site in Nepal. Land at the airport and complete the visa formalities. One of our team delegates will welcome you at the terminal gate and take you to the hotel. He will brief you about the day program and leave you alone to rest. Later, you will meet with other team members over a welcome dinner prepared by the company.

Today, you will arrange all the gears and permits. Make sure to check all the gears properly before the final packing. If you will leave with a few hours then you can go on guided sightseeing tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will also meet with your trek guide, and he will brief you about the trail.

After having a delicious breakfast, you drive to Jagat. It is going to be a long drive, however, the route will offer amazing views of terraced farms, lush green hills, rivers, and villages. You will find a bumpy roads on some parts, and from Besishahar onwards the road is dusty and rough.

It is going to be a long trekking day. From Jagat, you will trekking towards Dharapani. The trail enters in Manang district and crosses a large bridge near Tal. Further, you trek through lovely farms and pine forests to Kodo village. A short walk from here will take you to Dharapani for a night stay.

The trail continues to a steep forested ridge through many landslide-prone areas. Today, you get to see superb views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and Lamjung Himal on the way.

From Chame, you trek through the steep narrow path and pass by a dense forest. From a curved rock face, the trail ascends to Pisang offering majestic views of Himalayan mountains.

There are two routes that lead to Manang. Following an upper route through Upper Pisang, you trek towards Manang. This route offers tempting landscape views and stunning Himalayan mountains. You will visit the Barge monastery on the way.

Today is a rest day to acclimate your body. You will explore the village and go on short hikes. There are many things to look around Manang. You have the option to visit Bhojo Gompa, Gangapurna Lake, or centuries-old gompa.

The trail passes through alpine forests along with offering beautiful landscapes towards Leder. You ascend to Yak Kharka and move towards Leder for night stay.

The trail moves to Chulu West Base Camp. On the way, you get to see stunning views of Annapurna Himalayas. Upon reaching base camp, you will set the camps and rest for the day.

After having a warm breakfast prepared by our team, you will ascend to Camp I. As the altitude will increase, the climb will become tiresome. You get to see amazing views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.

It is our rest day at Camp I. You will go on short hikes. Your team leader will teach you basic mountaineering skills and proper use of gears.

From Camp I, the route ascends to the rock band. The trail to Camp II is not technically difficult, but you might have to use crampons, ice-ar, and ropes. Upon reaching Camp II, you will have enough time to rest and restore energy.

Today is the big day. You will summit the Chulu West Peak. From Camp II, the route gradually moves towards the summit. On the way, you will cross icefalls and crevasses. Your guide will fixed rope whenever required. Upon reaching the top of the summit, you get to see the surreal view of the Himalayas. Later, you will descend to Camp I retracing the same route for night stay.

The trail descends to Leder following the same path. During descending, you get to see wonderful views of Annapurna and other mountains.

Weather can change anytime at high altitude. We have kept this day so that you can use it if there will be bad weather before/after reaching the summit. You can use this day as an extra day in Pokhara or Kathmandu if everything goes as per our plan.

From Leder, the trail gradually descends to Thorong Phedi. Today, it is going to be a short and easy downhill walk.

It is going to be a long day. You wake up early and ascend on a steep rocky path to Thorong La Pass. From the pass, the trail descends to scared Muktinath Temple. Visiting the temple, you drive to Jomsom in a private jeep. The trail will offer breath-taking views.

After breakfast, you take an early morning flight to Pokhara. The flight will offer stunning views of the Himalayan mountains. You land at Pokhara airport and drive to the hotel. You will have enough time to explore around Lakeside market and do boating on tranquil Fewa Lake.

You drive back to Kathmandu. The route will be the same as before and offers excellent landscape views. Move to the hotel and rest. In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner organized by the company.

    Chulu West Peak Climbing route

    With a scenic drive from Kathmandu, you reach Jagat. From here, you trek through small villages and lush forests toward Manang. Taking day break at this village, the trail ascends to Chulu West Base Camp via Leder. The trail then gradually ascends to Camp I and then to Camp II, and finally, take to the summit of Chulu West Peak. After spending some time at the top of the peak, you descend to base camp. Further, the trail crosses challenging Thorong La Pass and descend to pilgrimage site, Muktinath. You then walk along Kali Gandaki Gorge and pass by lovely apple orchards to reach Jomsom.

    Best time to go Chulu West Peak Climbing

    March to May and October to November is the best time to go on Chulu West Peak Climbing. These are the peak time to climb in the Himalayas as the weather stays stable most of the time. Likewise, a moderate climate and clear views make the journey fantastic. Other seasons like winter and monsoon is not recommended for Chulu West Peak climbing.

    Chulu West Peak Climbing difficulty

    Chulu West Peak Climbing is a difficult climbing. The trail is full of ascends & descends on a steep and rugged path. Moreover, you need to walk on a snowy and glacier path. The trail demands 6 to 7 hours walk each day that can extend to 8 or 9 as well. You have to be in good health and strong physical fitness to go on this adventurous journey. Plus, previous trekking experience is also required.

    Altitude Sickness Symptoms & Prevention

    Altitude sickness is a common illness that happens during high altitude journey. Chulu West Peak Climbing takes you above 6,000 meters, which do involve chances of altitude sickness. If your body did not get acclimatize properly with the elevation at that time it is more prone to happen. Therefore, we have designed our itinerary including ample rest days.

    Below you can read about symptoms and prevention of altitude sickness:

    Symptoms of altitude sickness:-

    • headache
    • nausea and vomiting
    • dizziness
    • tiredness
    • loss of appetite
    • shortness of breath

    Prevention of altitude sickness:-

    • Include an adequate number of rest days during the trek/climbing
    • Avoid climbing more than 300-500 meters a day
    • Make sure you're drinking enough water
    • Eat a light but high-calorie diet
    • Avoid alcohol
    • Avoid smoking
    • Inform your guide immediately so that he can take proper action on time
    • Drop down to lower altitude and rest for a few days until symptoms getaway

    Food & Water during Chulu West Peak Climbing

    • You will get meals as er the menu of the lodge in which you stay overnight. They offer a good variety of dishes like rice, curries (veg/non-veg), chapati, porridge, eggs, bread, momo, rice pudding, thukpa, sandwich, etc. During climbing, the meals will be cooked by our trained crew members. We will provide you delicious, filling, and nutritious meals that will give you adequate energy to climb.
    • Boiled water is available in the teahouse. You might have to pay a few bucks at someplace to refill your water bottle. You can also find plastic water bottles on the way, but we request you not to buy it. It can get very expensive and also increases waste. Don't forget to carry water purification tablets or any lightweight purification device.

    Accommodation during Chulu West Peak Climbing

    The lodge will be the main accommodation in the villages, whereas during the climbing period, you stay overnight in camp. Lodges here are run by locals. The facilities in the lodge are quite basic, and it will seem more like sharing a room of the local's house than a hotel. The rooms come with twin beds, which means you have to share with a fellow trekker. Washrooms may be common most of the time. For a climbing period, we will carry all the tents and equipment that will help you survive.
